2025: A look back at sports — It’s been a “the-only-constant-in-life-is-change” type of year for the Colorado Trust for Local News.

From a mid-year tweak in our coverage areas to staff changes and more, one thing has stayed consistent: sports along the Front Range have continued to deliver some of the best stories of the year. But we couldn’t narrow it down to 10, so here are the 12 best sports stories of 2025!

BEST OF THE BEST — As schools shut down for Winter Break, championship football teams are still riding the high from the climax of the season in early December. Our area schools — Pomona in 3A, Dakota Ridge in 4A and Cherry Creek in 5A — all hoisted trophies.

But athletes across the state showcased their skills all season long, with many earning a spot on one of this year’s All-State teams from the Colorado High School Activities Association. Meet the athletes on the list below!

Ralston Valley media production class wins Classroom of the Year Award: Led by seniors Jay Bertone, Ayla Chan and Simon Paulsen, the award-winning group has worked tirelessly to liven up RVHS’s pep rallies and sporting events. 

CLOC moves forward on high school reclassification: The first steps on the road to reclassification among Colorado high schools is in the books.

How Rink Dude is making hockey more accessible: 8-year-old Luke Grahame turned spare time at the rink into a way to support his fellow athletes.

Local chess tournaments growing in popularity for all ages: At least 90 players recently registered for a tournament at Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
